CONNECTING AS A WAY OF DEALING WITH STRESS

Social Aspects of Work

With all that is happening in our world I am reminded how important it is to connect. It may sound simple but I have been regularly reminded how a simple – “how are you doing?” text, email or better yet phone call, can mean when the world has turned upside down.

We are all striving to find new ways of working, establish new routines, or for many remember fifth grade math so you can teach it to your children. In the midst of all of this, we need the energy and nourishment we get from social connections. An email, a text or better yet a phone call, to just say “thinking about you” gives so much to both the giver and the receiver.

This point was driven home to me this morning when I listened to a podcast by Sam Harris called “Meditation in an Emergency”. Humans are social animals. The need to connect is part of who we are. I found this particularly helpful in reminding me where anxiety and stress come from and how to help manage through. If you haven’t listened – it is worth the 20 minutes. Be well my friends!
